Your New Vols Experience begins with virtual advising and course registration. Since you’ve already registered for the New Vols Experience, your college will reach out to you at your U.T.K. email address to set up your virtual advising appointment on your specific registration date. From May to July, depending on the Orientation registration date you have selected, you will complete one-on-one advising and registration online with an academic advisor from your college. Participation in virtual advising is required, and begins your first step to success as a New Vol.
April 17 Registrants: If you have not already created your fall academic plan with an academic advisor, a representative from your academic advising office will reach out to you at your UT email address with instructions on how to set up your virtual advising appointment by April 13.
If you haven’t done so already, register for the New V.O.L. Experience on our registration site. Your appointment will take place on that specific registration date. A representative from your academic advising office will reach out to you at your UTK email address with instructions on how to set up your virtual advising appointment at least one week prior to your registration date.
You may contact your academic college directly to reschedule your individual advising appointment. If you need to reschedule your New V.O.L. Experience session, contact New Student Orientation directly at email@example.com.
All fall first-year students will register for a 2-Day program. There will be required sessions during this time frame on one or both days. Some individual advising appointments will take place on Day 1, however, some will occur on Day 2. Those assignments will be made by your academic college.
- Explore the Undergraduate Catalog.
- Complete your pre-advising homework prior to your appointment.
- Virtual Advising can be completed through zoom technology. During your appointment, you will want access to a quiet space, internet/wifi, and a computer, tablet, or phone. If you will not have access to this type of technology, please let your college know that when they reach out to you.
NOTE: Accommodations for students who do not have access to a computer and/or internet will be made by each academic college.
UTK takes academic advising seriously. Your academic advisor will help you develop your academic plan in relation to self-exploration, career exploration, and experiential learning. You can expect a one-on-one experience with an academic advisor who will introduce you to the curriculum in your program of choice. You’ll also receive help with navigating registration.
Additional resources will be provided to all students prior and during each phase of the New V.O.L. Experience. Please continue to monitor your e-mail for details.
Appointments will last 30 to 40 minutes depending on the college and specific degree requirements. Other college-specific sessions may be scheduled during your registration window. That schedule will be shared by your college.
